Raphael Golb is a member of the New York State Bar. He received his J.D. from New York University and a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Harvard.
He is the author of two books chronicling his journey through the New York criminal justice system, particularly focusing on the highly publicized People v. Golb case. Following his arrest at gunpoint in his home, a trial ensued in which the concept of 'truth' was not permitted as a defense. This led to seven years of appellate litigation in both state and federal courts.
Raphael Golb’s trial and subsequent appeal made legal history, shining a light on significant issues related to scholarly ethics, free and open debate, and the ongoing controversy surrounding the origins of the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Some law specialists viewed People v. Golb as an infringement on First Amendment rights, while others held differing opinions, highlighting a deep divide in perspectives on freedom of expression within America.
